Why watch this film?
Awarded at the San Diego International Film Festival, 'El principio de un nuevo amor' ('The Bachelors') is a coming-of-age drama that also deals with loss and grief. In this sense, the film is full of clichés, but manages to balance mourning with a great sense of humor, largely thanks to its excellent cast which includes Julie Delpy ('Lolo: el hijo de mi novia'), Odeya Rush ('Lady Bird') and Josh Wiggins. However, the standout performance is by J.K. Simmons (Oscar winner for 'Whiplash: Music and Obsession'), who achieves cathartic scenes that will certainly bring tears.

Kidnapped
In Kidnapped (Rapito), Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio delves into one of the murkiest and most controversial episodes in the history of the Catholic Church, the "Mortara case". In 1851, when Jewish boy Edgardo Mortara becomes gravely ill, his Catholic nanny decides to baptize him in an emergency. However, papal law dictates that all Catholics must be raised as such, so the cardinal orders the boy to be taken and handed over to the church, against his parents' wishes, who decide to fight for him. The film recounts a controversial case that captured the attention of the rest of Europe and America, and skillfully portrays the clash of interests between the waning power of the church, Mortara's parents, and public opinion, with irreversible consequences for all involved.
Green Border
'Green Border' - In the treacherous and swampy forests that make up the so called “green border” between Belarus and Poland, refugees from the Middle East and Africa trying to reach the European Union are trapped in a geopolitical crisis cynically engineered by Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko. In an attempt to provoke Europe, refugees are lured to the border by propaganda promising easy passage to the EU. Pawns in this hidden war, the lives of Julia, a newly minted activist who has given up her comfortable life, Jan, a young border guard, and a Syrian family intertwine.
