Why watch this film?

'Martin Eden' is one of the most inventive films of 2020. After all, the story about a poor young writer entering into a strong social conflict is not told in an obvious or conventional way. On the contrary. First, director Pietro Marcello (also from the acclaimed 'The Mouth of the Wolf') plays with the narrative possibilities that open up and does not spare the viewer from daring with everything he has in his hands, going beyond the original work of Jack London that inspired this feature film. Temporality, layers, psyche of the characters. Everything enters into a boiling narrative cauldron. Not to mention the creative editing of Aline Hervé and Fabrizio Federico, which creates a real album of memories to accompany the story. In addition, it is interesting to note how Marcello knows how to mix stories and feelings, making 'Martin Eden' not only a pseudo-biographical drama, but also a story about love, passion, disappointments and fear. Finally, the powerful performance of Luca Marinelli (from 'A Personal Matter') stands out, putting strength and personality into the narrative. Without a doubt, an adaptation that would not disappoint Jack London.
