Amazing performances by leads Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay, forming a pair of protagonists for a story of love, camaraderie, and closeness. A film that manages to combine tension and fear with maternal love to create an uplifting tale of a mother (Larson) who must raise her son (Tremblay) in a captivity. Detail: the latter has never seen the sun or life outside. With fine direction from Lenny Abrahamson ('Frank'), 'Room' hits the mark as it transitions between filming styles and emotions, allowing the viewer to follow the modulation of moods. Even though the second half of the movie is considerably inferior to what is seen in the initial portion of the story, there is still plenty of room here for emotion. It's worth the dive into the plot.
The Little Stranger
In "Strange Presence," Oscar-nominated director Lenny Abrahamson ("Room") takes us to a dark atmosphere of sophisticated and gothic horror. The story takes place in 1948 when a doctor goes to attend a bicentenary and gloomy house. There, he discovers some dark things - which are closer to him than he can imagine. The cast includes Domhnall Gleeson, who had previously worked with the director on "Frank", Ruth Wilson (who won the Golden Globe for "The Affair") and Will Poulter ("Maze Runner").
