The Lullaby

A new mother's paranoia and hallucinations lead her to question if evil is lurking.

Why watch this film?

Terror is often much more effective when, through ambiguity, it confronts us with threats that originate from within ourselves: the human condition as the basis of the supernatural (or what appears to be so). In this sense, South African production 'Con el demonio adentro' ('The Lullaby') follows a very similar line to 'Babadook', since it addresses the psychological pressures of motherhood and, in particular, postpartum depression. Director Darrell Roodt ('Sarafina!') achieves a palpable atmosphere of terror with supernatural elements, but the real tension comes from the dynamics between the characters and their contrasting positions on being mothers and daughters.
