The Artist and the Model

An old sculptor finds inspiration in a young Spanish girl during WWII.

Why watch this film?

Though it seems like a contradiction, 'El artista y la modelo' speaks of visual arts without using colors. After all, the inventive director Fernando Trueba ('Chico e Rita', 'A Rainha da Espanha') takes the viewer's attention away from the works that are being created to make sure that the entire story is directed towards the relationship between the artist and the model. With gestures, looks, silences and words, the feature film is built with an unparalleled delicacy and only shows how the choice to be in black and white is not just an aesthetic crutch to please nostalgics. Highlight for Jean Rochefort, in one of his last works.
