Why watch this film?
No, it's not a silly teen comedy but a great dramatic experience. 'All Together Now' is based on the same-named book by American writer Matthew Quick, the same one from 'The Silver Linings Playbook'. With this background, it's already possible to imagine that we are talking about another dense and surprising drama with a teen movie title. The production deals with sensitive and complicated topics. The only weak point is that, even with such strong discussions, the movie ends up losing a bit of the tone when addressing these points with subtlety - the production could have gone further and become more powerful.

Hearts Beat Loud
Selected at Sundance Festival, 'Beats of Heart' is an emotionally compelling film about dreams and nostalgia, tackling how people cope with the constant changes in the world. The core story is about a record store owner who struggles to keep up with the changing music world and the fact that his daughter is at the college age. Kudos to the cast, which features familiar faces such as Nick Offerman ('Parks and Recreation'), Toni Collete ('Little Miss Sunshine') and Ted Danson ('Cheers'). Highly recommended for all music-nostalgic lovers and for every father who has seen or will see their children leaving home.
The Hero
Sam Elliott (from 'We Were Heroes' and 'The Hired Gun') delivers a great performance in 'The Hero', a story about a past-era movie legend who discovers he has cancer, which forces him to reevaluate his life, decisions and priorities - as well as start a relationship with a much younger woman. The cast also features Laura Prepon (‘That 70’s Show’) and Krysten Ritter (‘Jessica Jones’). You may feel a sense of déjà vu, as the script has its clichés and the epiphany after being discharged from the doctors is something common in cinema, but the performances - especially Elliott's - ensure an emotional feature film.
All the Bright Places
Directed by Brett Haley (the filmmaker behind the acclaimed independent drama, 'Hearts Beat Loud'), 'All the Bright Places' is the cinematic adaptation of the eponymous young adult novel by Jennifer Niven. Like the material it is based on, this movie portrays with empathy and sensitivity what it is like to suffer from a mental illness in youth and how it can affect relationships and ways of seeing a life as a couple. The good performances are a guarantee, since the film is starred by Elle Fanning ('The Neon Demon') and Justice Smith ('Detective Pikachu', 'The Get Down'). A tip: grab the tissue before pressing play.

In Kidnapped (Rapito), Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio delves into one of the murkiest and most controversial episodes in the history of the Catholic Church, the "Mortara case". In 1851, when Jewish boy Edgardo Mortara becomes gravely ill, his Catholic nanny decides to baptize him in an emergency. However, papal law dictates that all Catholics must be raised as such, so the cardinal orders the boy to be taken and handed over to the church, against his parents' wishes, who decide to fight for him. The film recounts a controversial case that captured the attention of the rest of Europe and America, and skillfully portrays the clash of interests between the waning power of the church, Mortara's parents, and public opinion, with irreversible consequences for all involved.
Green Border
'Green Border' - In the treacherous and swampy forests that make up the so called “green border” between Belarus and Poland, refugees from the Middle East and Africa trying to reach the European Union are trapped in a geopolitical crisis cynically engineered by Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko. In an attempt to provoke Europe, refugees are lured to the border by propaganda promising easy passage to the EU. Pawns in this hidden war, the lives of Julia, a newly minted activist who has given up her comfortable life, Jan, a young border guard, and a Syrian family intertwine.
