Why watch this film?

Interesting debut film from Nicole Riegel, which draws on some of her own experiences to construct this introspective drama about a young person searching for their place in the world. Although it is a bit slow in its execution and has some obvious narrative issues, Jessica Barden fits perfectly into the role of this girl trying to make sense of her life as the world around her compresses, scares, and pushes her away. And the photography, wounded by the 16mm Kodak filming, helps set the overall tone of the feature, calling attention to the invisible ones, those who are the first to lose their job and the last to be rehired. And in the end, it brings a breath of fresh air as it makes us question: can't we all dream?
