Why watch this film?
The prolific French filmmaker François Ozon usually tackles similar themes in his works. Family, relationships, literature, the writing process. Here, in 'Été 85', he mixes all these preferences in a typical summer love story. In this case, the young Alexis and David, who meet almost by chance and end up discovering their own sexualities. Although limited and somewhat generic, on the same level as 'Double Lovers', this feature film by Ozon has the typical freshness of a plot set in the European summer. There are good scenes, good characters and the viewer is interested in knowing how the story, divided into two different narratives, will evolve -- even though its conclusion is somewhat disappointing. Also noteworthy is the soundtrack, with a delicious sound of Rod Stewart in the background, helping those who watch the movie to dive into a time capsule for a time when, who knows, life may have been lighter, more colorful and loving.

Three men join forces to seek justice - trying to prove the abuse they suffered from a priest when they were children. To do this, they must face the power of the Church and the pain of revisiting the agonies of the past. The end result is touching and engaging, turning distant news stories into tangible events. For all these reasons, "Grâce à Dieu" won the Jury Prize at the Berlin Film Festival, as well as many praises from critics.
Potiche (Trophy Wife)
Filmmaker François Ozon shifts gears from his last feature, the intimate drama 'The Refuge,' to a seemingly frivolous comedy. However, 'Potiche: Women in Power' is a great movie that satirizes traditional gender roles, and in turn demonstrates how outdated they are today (much to the chagrin of their defenders). If none of this convinces you, it should suffice to mention the presence of two French cinema legends: Catherine Deneuve and Gérard Depardieu. Not to mention that the film was nominated for the prestigious Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, a BAFTA, and four César Awards.

The movie sets out to be a kind of conclusion to World War One. Through the relationship between French and German characters, director-screenwriter François Ozon (from 'Young and Beautiful') reconstructs the resentments that remained between the two peoples, including pain, memories, and hopes. A simple yet beautiful feature film.
The New Girlfriend
This movie earned two César Award nominations, and one more victory for its director, François Ozon, at the San Sebastián Film Festival (where it won the award for Best Film). 'Una Nueva Amiga' is a psychological drama with lots of intrigue and erotic elements that invites us to reflect on sexual identity, gender roles, and romantic relationships amidst it all.
The Refuge
With this movie, French director François Ozon won the Jury Prize at the San Sebastián Film Festival. 'El Refugio' is an intimate and subtle drama, where it may sometimes seem like not much is happening, but there lies its power: to witness a woman's life during one of the most important stages, filled with hope but also doubt: pregnancy. With simple production values and a modest script, the film presents questions about motherhood, the body and couple life that arise during this stage.
Double Lover
This is a tense and sensual thriller, which brings back elements from classic erotic films of the past, but with an interesting twist. The direction is by François Ozon, whom you may know from movies like 'Young & Beautiful' and 'In The House', bringing all the aesthetic and elegance of European cinema. With so many highlights, the production was part of the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival in 2017.
Everything Went Fine
Subject matter delicate and treated as taboo in many places, euthanasia is a topic that, every now and then, appears in the movies - from the shocking plot twist of 'Million Dollar Baby' to the surprisingly powerful 'Paddleton'. In 'Tout s'est bien passé', the theme is treated with a certain lightness, although the harshness is there, by François Ozon. Prolific French director, he addresses the theme from the story of an elderly man (André Dussollier) who, after suffering a stroke, asks his daughter (Sophie Marceau) to help him go through a euthanasia process. From this, Ozon revisits the ghosts of grief, the fear of death and, above all, pokes at the way nations treat the theme - which includes France which, despite being one of the most liberal countries in customs, sees euthanasia in a negative way. It's not a deep movie like 'Million Dollar Baby' or touching like 'Paddleton', but it helps to give a new look to this subject that requires more and more discussions around it.
Peter von Kant
"The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant" is a 1970s film by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, based on a play he wrote. "Peter von Kant" is a new adaptation of Fassbinder's text with direction by François Ozon ("Summer of 85"). Starring Isabelle Adjani, Denis Ménochet and Khalil Ben Gharbia, the film recaptures all the theatrical authenticity of the story, with striking sets, colors, soundtrack and the lack of dialogue from one of the characters. It is a very well-constructed production that explores the vices of society and human nature. "Peter von Kant" goes far beyond a simple comedy.

The Crime Is Mine
With films like Young & Beautiful or By the Grace of God, French director François Ozon has demonstrated both his versatility in tackling all kinds of genres and his ability to ask uncomfortable and transgressive questions in each of them. With The Crime is Mine (Mon Crime), the filmmaker now tackles the screwball comedy. Set in the 1930s, the plot follows a young aspiring actress (Nadia Tereszkiewicz, Babysitter), who becomes a suspect in the murder of a influential film producer. Although acquitted of the case, the trial propels her to stardom and she decides to capitalize on it, but soon a more complex and wild truth emerges. With a cast including Isabelle Huppert, Rebecca Marder, André Dussollier, and Fabrice Luchini, this French film is not only funny: it's also a commentary on how, faced with the possibility of fame and money, absolutely everything can be sacrificed on the altar of convenience.
