Why watch this film?

How many women working as DJs do you know? In 2018 and 2019, only 7 women appeared in the ranking of the world's top 100 DJs. And it is with this inequality in mind that the documentary 'Underplayed' arrives, shown at the Toronto Festival. Directed by Stacey Lee, it follows the daily life and challenging journey of some of these women who work on the stages and behind the scenes of the electronic music market. Even though there is a certain lack of refinement in the narrative and even in the rhythm of the film, it cannot be denied that the feature film fulfills what it promises. It inspires, shows that there are success stories and, without a doubt, it moves those women who are still looking for a place in electronic music. A film, therefore, that reaffirms its importance and proves that cinema is also an important tool to show how gender inequality exists in the world. Including in electronic music.
