After the acclaimed 'The Heiress' from 2015, the sequel 'Skammerens datter II: Slangens gave' arrives. For those who watched the first feature film, the tone and atmosphere are practically the same: a medieval setting with a story full of fantasy and magical elements. Here, we follow the journey of the daughter of a great wizard in the region who begins to develop her abilities and investigate heinous crimes, since she can make people admit their most intimate and dark shames. It is a curious and creative Danish film that shows another side of fantasy, usually associated with British or American productions. It is not as good as the first feature, but it will certainly excite genre fans and help continue this good story.

Here, director Jeymes Samuel (The Harder They Fall) filters the conventions of these films through a black lens, with a cast led by names like Lakeith Stanfield, Alfre Woodard, David Oyelowo, Omar Sy, and Anna Diop, among others. The Book of Clarence follows a man who, aspiring to be someone in life, decides to capitalize on the popularity of Jesus of Nazareth for his own benefit. Through the biblical cliché, the film examines issues such as black identity, the distortion of faith by organized religions, and the very sense of goodness and compassion. It's somewhat uneven but nonetheless entertaining.
