Pacarrete

An eccentric ballet dancer from rural Brazil fights to keep her dreams alive.

Why watch this film?

'Pacarrete' may be the most Brazilian movie of 2020. And that's not a detriment to other great feature films released throughout this year. It's just that director Allan Deberton really understood small Brazilian towns like few others. Here, he translates a very particular culture of the country's interior through the skin of this woman who gives her name to the feature film. She is considered strange by her neighbors, crazy by many. She has a rough voice, brilliantly interpreted by Marcélia Cartaxo ('A Hora da Estrela'), and dances with the broom on the sidewalk of her house. From this so particular and peculiar figure, Deberton speaks about the forgetting of artists and how there are many lost and forgotten talents out there, in an interior that is also undergoing transformations. To reflect and be moved.
