Why watch this film?
Presented at the Toronto Film Festival and awarded in Zurich, 'Sound of Metal' is a powerful film that not only manages to tell a story about a loss - in this case, sensory - and its acceptance, but also manages to evoke the feeling through image and, above all, with an excellent sound design. Much of the burden falls on Riz Ahmed ('Rogue One'), who gives one of the best performances of his career capturing the despair of his character, as well as the beauty he finds in the quietude. The film also features the always excellent Olivia Cooke ('Ready Player One') in one of the most interesting characters of her career.
