Why watch this film?

After consolidating himself as Iron Man in Marvel films, Robert Downey Jr. wanted to show the audience and critics (and perhaps himself as well) that he was still a good dramatic actor. And this attempt came with the good family melodrama 'The Judge'. Directed by schematic filmmaker David Dobkin ('Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga'), the feature follows the drama of a lawyer son (Downey Jr.) who must return to his hometown to protect the elderly father (Robert Duvall), former judge, in a trial that accuses him of murder. It is a film that heavily weighs two elements: family dramas and tragedies and court stories, with sometimes excessive details. If you like one of these story styles, you may be interested in the feature, supported by great performances from Downey Jr, Duvall and Billy Bob Thornton, who fits perfectly as an antagonist figure in the production.
