Trailer

Why watch this film?

In the United States there is an annual monologue competition named after August Wilson, a famous American playwright who won two Pulitzer Prizes for Theater and died in 2005. The documentary 'Giving Voice', directed by James D. Stern and Fernando Villena, literally gives voice to the students who participate in this competition and the African-American history, through Wilson's plays that are part of the competition. The production features interviews with other great figures of dramaturgy such as Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, who is also one of the executive producers of the film. 'Giving Voice' is a curious documentary, especially for the Brazilian audience, as it shows how the American culture seeks to give importance to the study of scenic art. After all, we know that it is no coincidence that the United States is one of the largest film markets in the world.
