Why watch this film?

The renowned Brazilian director Daniel Filho takes on the task of adapting one of Nelson Rodrigues' works here. 'Boca de Ouro' was a play written by the author in the 1950s and now has another cinematic version - the first was made in 1962 and Daniel Filho is in the cast this time as an actor. As an expert of the story, he did a beautiful job with what he had and still managed to bring singularity to the production. The movie follows Boca de Ouro, a head of the bicho game. Some critics call him Don Corleone of Madureira, a neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. Nelson Rodrigues built a plot that shows three versions of the protagonist's life, all told from his death. It is a film that not only pays homage to one of Brazil's greatest dramatists, but also exemplifies the reason why Rodrigues was so successful in his works.
