Why watch this film?

Near the end of two decades of successful science fiction horror films, Universal Pictures' franchise moved away from tragedies and serious settings, to crossovers with Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, who had become the most popular comedy duo during World War II. Thus, 'Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein' became the first film in which the duo encountered three of the most popular characters from the Universal Classic Monster canon: The Wolf Man, Frankenstein's Monster, and Count Dracula (with the distinction that this was the only time Bela Lugosi reprised the role, after the original 'Dracula'). It is a horror comedy that parodies the rest of the franchise, a curious experiment by Universal Pictures at the time, which spawned two sequels.
