Why watch this film?

"Danyka" is the new movie from Australian-Mexican director Michael Rowe, an exploration of the desire and fantasies provoked by the innate beauty of youth. In the plot, Demián Bichir plays Armando, who is fascinated by the physical, intellectual, and spiritual beauty of a 15-year-old girl named Danyka, portrayed by Sasha González. A deep reading would reveal that Danyka represents everything Armando has lost in life: youth, rebellion, energy. He, going through a mid-life crisis, is confronted with this fascinating character. The premise is not uncommon in cinema, having been seen before in films like 'Lolita' or 'American Beauty', but definitely making a movie about male desire that eroticizes the very young female body in the #MeToo era is still a minefield. The plus points are the performances of Demián Bichir and Sasha González. In fact, the chemistry between the two is so natural that the dialogues don't even seem forced.
