Why watch this film?
By the Portuguese title, it is assumed that 'A Protetora' (or 'The Doorman' in English) is a substantially generic movie. It does not differ in anything from other action films, which like to repeat these "protector" nomenclatures and their variations. And indeed. This feature film by Japanese filmmaker Ryûhei Kitamura is not even a shadow of his other provocative and daring productions, such as 'O Último Trem' and 'Azumi'. Here, there are a handful of clichés, and derivations of 'Duro de Matar', to tell the story of a former soldier who has to deal with terrorists invading the hotel where she works. Ruby Rose ('Orange is the New Black') and Jean Reno ('The Professional'), unfortunately, cannot save the film from this situation. However, the warning remains: those who like action films just to pass the time, will undoubtedly have a full plate in 'The Doorman'. Just let go.

The Order

With shades of Dan Brown and a script by Jean Claude Van Damme himself, alongside Les Weldon (screenwriter of another action star film, Replicant), the movie is what every fan of the Belgian actor wants: brawling, with a fun plot, and never boring.
