Why watch this film?

This movie faced controversy for casting Dakota Fanning as a Muslim woman. At the time, the actress explained that she was bringing to life a British woman who was abandoned in Africa and grew up as a Muslim. With the importance of diversity in cinema, the production ended up facing a negative reaction from the audience. Despite its flaws, 'Sweetness in the Belly' hits many of the right notes, presenting a touching story about the search for a home and how easy it is to cling to the details of life when you have already experienced abandonment.
