More than just an action-filled movie full of special effects and big scenes (which, with praise, is also the case here), this super production from filmmaker Matt Reeves offers one more layer to the philosophical discussion about the essence of humanity initiated by the classic 1968 - transforming the feature film into a great metaphor about our world today, making us think. Highlight for Woody Harrelson, highly energetic and magnetic as the antagonist Colonel, plus the brilliant Andy Serkis, as the intelligent leader ape Caesar - in another revolutionary performance with motion capture technology.

Plot summary

This movie revives the "found footage" style to tell the story of an alien invasion in New York, through the reactions of the city's inhabitants, on a low budget. Behind the cameras are big names of the newest generation of Hollywood filmmakers, such as director Matt Reeves (from 'War for the Planet of the Apes'), producers Bryan Burk and J.J. Abrams (from 'Star Trek' and 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens') and screenwriter Drew Goddard (from 'The Martian'). The result is a movie that entertains, mixes styles, and innovates.
The Batman
Forget Christopher Nolan's Batman, or even Zack Snyder's version. 'The Batman' brings a new interpretation of the famous Dark Knight. Inspired by noir cinema and films like 'Zodiac', 'Se7en' and 'Chinatown', the production delivers a slow-burning story, with an investigation into the corrupt underworld of Gotham City politics and the mafia. Directed by Matt Reeves (of 'Planet of the Apes: War'), the feature film addresses the second year of the Caped Crusader's performance, in an excellent interpretation by Robert Pattinson - who lends his most dramatic side here, bringing weight to the hero. To this is added a cast of weight, with Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright standing out - but with Zoë Kravitz's Catwoman stealing the show. The action sequences, although rarer, are breathtaking, carrying a certain pomp that fits, yes, the DC character. When all of this is added together, we have a more detective version of Batman, in an enveloping atmosphere movie that, if it does not make us feel better at its end, does carry in its conclusion a message of positive reflection. It may not be the Batman you were expecting to see, but you will certainly be happy to find him.

Bloodsport
Jean-Claude Van Damme makes his starring debut in the descriptively titled Bloodsport. An American soldier at large in Hong Kong, Van Damme becomes involved in the Kumite, a highly illegal kickboxing competition. Whoever survives the bout will be crowned Kumite champion of the world…a title that has plenty of challengers with homicide in their hearts. The finale offers a duel to the death between Van Damme and reigning Kumite king Bolo Yeung. The script is based on the real-life exploits of martial arts champ Frank Dux, who serves as the film's fight coordinator.

The Order
In The Order, Van Damme plays a man accused of murder who seeks a sacred scripture in Jerusalem before it falls into the wrong hands, jeopardizing his freedom. With shades of Dan Brown and a script by Jean Claude Van Damme himself, alongside Les Weldon (screenwriter of another action star film, Replicant), the movie is what every fan of the Belgian actor wants: brawling, with a fun plot, and never boring.
