Red Trees

A Jewish family survives Nazi occupation in Prague and seeks refuge in Brazil.

Trailer

Why watch this film?

A touching story about a Jewish family who survived Nazi occupation in Prague, then Czechoslovakia, and sought refuge in Brazil. Abroad, the film has been criticized for its excessive voice-over from director Marina Willer (who is telling the story of her own father), for its clichés and schmaltz. However, for us Brazilians, the film takes on a new layer, reminding us that we are a people created from miscegenation, immigrants, natives, conquerors, and slaves, who have opened their doors to refugees many times in the past. A story that we cannot not only forget, but also need to value in order to build a future with more tolerance.
