Beastie Boys Story
Although the band dissolved in 2014 after the death of Adam "MCA" Yauch in 2012, the Beastie Boys have taken their place in history as one of the oldest and most popular hip hop groups of all time. 'Beastie Boys Story' - a self-explanatory title - brings together the two remaining members of the band, Michael "Mike D" Diamond and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz, with Oscar-winning filmmaker Spike Jonze, who directed several of the band's videos in the past. The documentary, whose premiere at South by Southwest 2020 was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic, goes back and forth between intimate scenes of the Beastie Boys and a contemporary performance in which Diamond and Horovitz share stories with the audience. It should be an emotional experience for the group's fans.
Adaptation.
Directed by Spike Jonze (from "Her"), "Adaptation" is one of the greatest exercises in metafiction in cinema. Written by Charlie Kaufman ("Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"), the feature film is about Charlie Kaufman... as he suffers from writer's block while trying to adapt for the movies the story of "The Orchid Thief", a book that in real life is written by Susan Orlean. Fun and very clever, this movie is a tribute to the artistic creation process, its difficulties, beauties and frustrations. The film was nominated for several BAFTA, Oscar and Golden Globe Awards - for Kaufman's screenplay, Jonze's direction and performances by Nicolas Cage, Meryl Streep and Chris Cooper.

In Kidnapped (Rapito), Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio delves into one of the murkiest and most controversial episodes in the history of the Catholic Church, the "Mortara case". In 1851, when Jewish boy Edgardo Mortara becomes gravely ill, his Catholic nanny decides to baptize him in an emergency. However, papal law dictates that all Catholics must be raised as such, so the cardinal orders the boy to be taken and handed over to the church, against his parents' wishes, who decide to fight for him. The film recounts a controversial case that captured the attention of the rest of Europe and America, and skillfully portrays the clash of interests between the waning power of the church, Mortara's parents, and public opinion, with irreversible consequences for all involved.
Green Border
'Green Border' - In the treacherous and swampy forests that make up the so called “green border” between Belarus and Poland, refugees from the Middle East and Africa trying to reach the European Union are trapped in a geopolitical crisis cynically engineered by Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko. In an attempt to provoke Europe, refugees are lured to the border by propaganda promising easy passage to the EU. Pawns in this hidden war, the lives of Julia, a newly minted activist who has given up her comfortable life, Jan, a young border guard, and a Syrian family intertwine.
