Why watch this film?

Written and directed by Joel Edgerton from Garrard Conley's memoirs, 'Boy Erased' caused a lot of controversy in Brazil after the distributor Universal chose not to release it in theaters - which brought rumors of censorship, which were denied. Either way, the movie was released directly on streaming and is an opportunity to experience an intimate drama that reflects a current debate: gay "cure" (something rejected by the medical community) and its impact on young people's lives. Through a good script and the powerful performances of Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe, this film empathically explores the complexities of identity, family relationships and religion for the LGBT+ community.
