This movie adapts the book 'The Zookeeper's Wife', written from Antonina Żabiński's diary, recounting how a family used the Warsaw Zoo to save countless Jewish lives during Nazi occupation of Poland. Starring Jessica Chastain and Daniel Brühl, the feature brings good performances and two distinct segments: the first, shorter one, which presents an idyllic environment with cute animals, and the second, which throws us into the horrors of the Holocaust. It isn't as memorable as other movies about this historic period, but still conveys an important message.

Plot summary
In 1939 Poland, Antonina Zabinska (two-time Academy Award® nominee Jessica Chastain) and her husband successfully run the Warsaw Zoo and raise their family in an idyllic existence. Their world is overturned, however, when the country is invaded by the Nazis and they are forced to report to the Reich's newly appointed zoologist (Daniel Brühl). To fight back on their own terms, the Zabinskis risk everything by covertly working with the Resistance and using the zoo's hidden tunnels and cages to save families from Nazi brutality.

Directed by Niki Caro ("The Whale Tale"), "North Country" is an excellent drama based on a real-life case that changed the landscape for women in the workplace: Lois Jenson and other female coworkers' 1984 lawsuit against the Eveleth Taconite Company for sexual harassment, the first of its kind in the United States. Though it may be overly melodramatic at times, this movie remains a great starting point to expose and explain gender-based violence in many forms, from psychological to physical and sexual, in settings as varied as the home, the workplace, and public spaces. To top it off, the cast is top-notch, led by the always impressive Charlize Theron (Oscar-winner for "Monster"), alongside Frances McDormand ("Fargo"), Sean Bean ("The Lord of the Rings"), Michelle Monaghan ("Kiss Kiss Bang Bang"), Woody Harrelson ("The People vs. Larry Flynt"), and Sissy Spacek ("Carrie").
Mulan
'Mulan' is not a live-action remake of the 1998 Disney animation, but rather a new story based on the legend of Mulan - a Chinese warrior who has become one of the most legendary women in the country. It's important to keep this in mind before starting to watch the production, which doesn't even seem like it was made by the Mickey Mouse studio. There are no songs and it's full of extremely well-produced action sequences. With a light touch of humor, 'Mulan' carries a serious tension and tone, focusing on details of Chinese culture - such as the presence of the phoenix. In China, birds are considered celestial messengers and in the story, the phoenix symbolizes female representation, while the dragon, present in the 1998 animation, is the male representation. The mythical bird also represents Mulan's bond with her father. The feature, which was directed by a woman, Niki Caro, has powerful moments about female strength. At the beginning, there is discomfort due to the conservatism present in Chinese culture, which is completely patriarchal, in which the woman must only fulfill her role as wife and Mulan shows herself against this, her thought becomes stronger throughout the movie and yields incredible scenes. In addition to the protagonist, another powerful woman is the other warrior, Xianniang, their connection in the story is a highlight of the film. Among the most recent live-actions released by Disney, 'Mulan' is one of the most powerful, especially for leaving the animation in the past, bringing a different narrative, although it has the same base that is the story of the Chinese warrior, and showing how resilient women are - and deserve respect.
The Mother
Action movie exclusive to Netflix that could be described as the female counterpart of 'Taken' (the famous action saga starring Liam Neeson), 'The Mother' directed by Niki Caro ('Cold Mountain', 'Mulan') brings us back to Jennifer Lopez's action side, who does not disappoint in the role of an assassin who, after a failed mission, is forced to abandon her baby to protect her. Years later, however, the girl is found by those who want to take revenge on her, so she must come out of hiding to save her and put an end to her enemies once and for all. JLo convinces, as usual, the movie is entertaining and there are some good performances (for example, from Mexican Gael García Bernal). However, like so many other Netflix action thrillers, you will forget it as soon as the credits roll.

Kidnapped
In Kidnapped (Rapito), Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio delves into one of the murkiest and most controversial episodes in the history of the Catholic Church, the "Mortara case". In 1851, when Jewish boy Edgardo Mortara becomes gravely ill, his Catholic nanny decides to baptize him in an emergency. However, papal law dictates that all Catholics must be raised as such, so the cardinal orders the boy to be taken and handed over to the church, against his parents' wishes, who decide to fight for him. The film recounts a controversial case that captured the attention of the rest of Europe and America, and skillfully portrays the clash of interests between the waning power of the church, Mortara's parents, and public opinion, with irreversible consequences for all involved.
Green Border
'Green Border' - In the treacherous and swampy forests that make up the so called “green border” between Belarus and Poland, refugees from the Middle East and Africa trying to reach the European Union are trapped in a geopolitical crisis cynically engineered by Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko. In an attempt to provoke Europe, refugees are lured to the border by propaganda promising easy passage to the EU. Pawns in this hidden war, the lives of Julia, a newly minted activist who has given up her comfortable life, Jan, a young border guard, and a Syrian family intertwine.
