Why watch this film?
At first, robbing a blind man's house seems like an easy task. Even cruel, since the visually impaired couldn't defend himself properly. However, that isn't the case with the blind man in the movie 'Don't Breathe'. Highly praised by critics and an unexpected box office success, the film follows the misadventures of a group of young robbers who enter an elderly man's house who can't see. What they don't expect is that the impaired man masters martial arts and will start a real game of cat and mouse -- even without being able to see an inch ahead. Even though director and screenwriter Fede Alvarez (‘Evil Dead’) commits some exaggerations, such as the scene involving a syringe, the rhythm is one of holding your breath, as the original English title suggests. One of those good, tense entertainments that make you stay glued to your couch. Special mention to Stephen Lang's (‘Avatar’) performance.

The Girl In the Spider's Web
Do you know the expression “don’t mess with a winning team”? It definitely applies to the story behind the 'Millennium' franchise. Inspired by the late Stieg Larsson's books, the movie saga started with the Swedish adaptation, starring Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Rapace as Mikael and Lisbeth. It was a well-crafted trilogy. Then, Sony Pictures took on the responsibility of making the American version. Another success with 'Millennium: The Men Who Didn't Love Women', directed by David Fincher and starring Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig. But instead of continuing where they had left off in 2018, the studio decided to do a reboot with 'Millennium: The Girl In The Spider's Web', inspired by a book written after Larsson's death by author David Lagercrantz. Instead of Craig and Mara, the actors Sverrir Gudnason and Claire Foy (from 'The Crown'). Even though it was well intended and stylish, and could please those who don't know the previous story of this franchise, 'Millennium: The Girl In The Spider's Web' stands out for its very different tone from the other films. Filmmaker Fede Alvarez ('Don't Breathe') makes everything slower, more contemplative, creating suspense based on the setting. The highlight is Foy, who after playing the Queen in the Netflix series brings a different interpretation to Lisbeth Salander, one of the most memorable characters of Nordic literature.
Evil Dead
Pointed out as a "reimagining" of the first installment of the 'Evil Dead' franchise created by Sam Raimi, this movie can be summed up as a much more serious remake, with an almost identical premise but without Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell). A group of young friends decide to spend a weekend in a remote cabin in the middle of the forest, but the unfortunate finding of the Book of the Dead (or Necronomicon) puts them against brutal demonic possessions. The physical comedy established by Campbell and Raimi since the second installment is forgotten here, in favor of a subtext about dependency and mental illnesses that works surprisingly well together with an extreme level of violence, perhaps the highest of the franchise. Although it deviates from what had been seen in earlier editions in terms of tone, it is a worthy - and effective - addition to the iconic horror franchise.

From director Gibrán Bazán, pupil of legendary cult filmmaker Juan López Moctezuma (Alucarda), NUDUS is a science fiction thriller that, with few resources, aspires to create the worst conceivable dystopia of our digital age: a world in which everyone's data is accessible to everyone, and for any purpose, after a major global hack. The plot follows a woman (Carla Hernández) who, upon waking up from a prolonged coma, is confronted by a stranger (Álex Crusa) who seems to know everything about her: everything she has written on WhatsApp and Facebook, all the videos she has sent to her contacts, all the humiliating information she has said in private. From this moment on, NUDUS seems more concerned with the mystery of its characters than with the greater background of their situation, so it becomes more about the exploitation of its female protagonist than a reflection on technology and data privacy. However, despite the plot going off the rails, the situation lends itself to exemplifying a catastrophic scenario of these breaches in privacy.
