Why watch this film?
This is a surprising - and affecting - story loosely based on facts, about a Cuban man named Sergio, who, with the help of a friend living in the US, seeks to help Sergei, the last Soviet cosmonaut aboard the Mir space station who cannot count on the collapsed Soviet Union for help getting back to Earth - where he was supposed to land, for example, had become an independent country, Kazakhstan. With irony and satirical elements, the movie reminds us that in space, there are no boundaries and also shows us the impact of major world political events on the lives of ordinary citizens. The direction and screenplay are signed by Ernesto Daranas, the same as 'In a School in Havana', and the cast also features Ron Perlman (´Hellboy´). The final result was highly praised by critics, being selected for various festivals and leading to Cuba's Oscar nomination.

Kidnapped
In Kidnapped (Rapito), Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio delves into one of the murkiest and most controversial episodes in the history of the Catholic Church, the "Mortara case". In 1851, when Jewish boy Edgardo Mortara becomes gravely ill, his Catholic nanny decides to baptize him in an emergency. However, papal law dictates that all Catholics must be raised as such, so the cardinal orders the boy to be taken and handed over to the church, against his parents' wishes, who decide to fight for him. The film recounts a controversial case that captured the attention of the rest of Europe and America, and skillfully portrays the clash of interests between the waning power of the church, Mortara's parents, and public opinion, with irreversible consequences for all involved.
