Chicuarotes

A group of teens in Mexico City seek a better life amidst harsh conditions.

Trailer

Why watch this film?

Gael García Bernal's second film as a director (more than a decade after 'Déficit') is a proposal inserted in Mexican cinema, influenced by neorealism, to portray the harsh living conditions of many citizens of Mexico. 'Chicuarotes' addresses issues as diverse as economic inequality, crime and domestic violence, coexisting in the same vicious circle. Not everything is hard to digest, because the film mixes its harsh reflections with some flashes of comedy, courtesy of a great performance by Benny Emmanuel. Definitely, it is not a movie to watch if you just want to have fun, but it will make you think about the lack of love in today's Mexican society.
