Police Killing

Mothers of unarmed teenagers killed by corrupt police fight for justice.

Trailer

Why watch this film?

Brazil is the country where the most homicides are committed, in absolute numbers, in the whole world. It is also the country where the police kill the most. 'Auto de Resistência' dives into this second problem - the term that gives the movie its title is the one used to classify murders in self-defense committed by the police. Exploring how these crimes are poorly reported and with often ineffective investigations, the feature tells real cases - even going to the trials. The victims, of course, are from the periphery and communities, revealing a great divide between the rich and the poor in society, as well as ethnic violence. A warning: there are real and brutal scenes, but this is the reality that awaits you when you look out your window.

Plot summary

On the outskirts of the city, a car is riddled with bullet holes, some the size of a fist. You’d think it was a gangland shooting, but these bullets were fired by the police, and the passengers were unarmed teenagers. In Rio de Janeiro, more than 16,000 civilians have been killed in police operations over the past twenty years, all in the name of self-defense. This powerful and disturbing film follows the mothers of these victims as they fight for justice against a corrupt and brutal system.
