Why watch this film?
Classic rock band ZZ Top has had a big presence in movies, thanks to using songs like ‘Sharp Dressed Man’ in ‘Evan Almighty’ and ‘La Grange’ in ‘Armageddon’, plus cameos in films such as ‘Back to the Future III’. However, there have been few film looks into the band's story itself, contributing to their famous halo of mystery. Produced to be released on the band's fifty-year anniversary, ‘ZZ Top: That Little Ol' Band from Texas’ explores their history from the beginning, through photos, concert footage, animations, and interviews with its members plus other artists and admirers, including Josh Homme (leader of Queens of the Stone Age) and Billy Bob Thornton (star of ‘Friday Night Lights’). The documentary has many funny anecdotes and, although it omits several negative aspects of their story, it works as a great tribute to the trio's five decades of life currently made up of Billy Gibbons, Frank Beard, and Dusty Hill.
