From Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín (director of 'Jackie', 'Neruda' and 'No'), 'Ema' is a powerful drama both visually and narratively. Screened at the 2019 Venice Film Festival, it is a film that tackles such diverse themes as female sexual liberation, the creative spirit of the arts, trauma, as well as contemporary family schemes, often far removed from the idea of children and marriage. Alongside Mexican Gael García Bernal, one of Larraín's recurring collaborators, Chilean actress Mariana Di Girolamo achieves a delicate yet impressive balance between composure and desperation in her performance, which you won't soon forget.

Natalie Portman's incredible performance as Jacqueline Kennedy brings both sides of the former First Lady to the big screen: the serene, well-mannered and glamorous woman from Washington; and the strong, determined woman who makes it clear without raising her voice that she can do anything for her family. Special mention also goes to the art direction and the almost exact recreation of Dallas and the White House in November 1963. Recommended for fans of good acting or historical reconstruction.
The Club
A psychological and complex criticism of the Church and its cases of pedophilia. The feature does not lose the impact of the subject it deals with, but even more so: it is complex and even scares us with its revelations. An excellent movie for denouncing.

Forget about the usual biopics. ‘Neruda’ deconstructs the traditional format, foregoing the mission to portray each moment of Pablo Neruda’s career to dive into a point that is defining of the poet’s personality: the persecution by the Chilean government. The result is a clash between the author’s lyricism and the darkness of those times. A movie for cinema lovers, literature buffs, or for those who enjoy great political and fight stories.

Cinematographers around the world are showing their perspectives on social isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic. Curated by Chilean director Pablo Larraín (‘Jackie’, ‘No’, and ‘The Club’), and his brother Juan de Dios Larraín, we follow 17 shorts with different views on this difficult period. Big names in cinema such as Paolo Sorrentino, Sebastián Lelio, Ladj Ly, Kristen Stewart, and Maggie Gyllenhaal are participating in the project. It's amazing to see how creativity can still stand out even if it's done from home or just showing their unhappy children with the new routine. It's an interesting idea from Netflix, which divided each short into an episode like a series; and from the Larraín brothers, showing that to make a movie you don't need big locations or even leave your residence.
Spencer
As director Pablo Larraín ("Jackie") defines it: "Spencer" is not a biopic, but rather a fable based on real events - literally in this case, since we are talking about royalty. Unlike the 2013 feature "Diana" starring Naomi Watts, here we get to know a playful story about a part of Princess Diana's life - impeccably portrayed by Kristen Stewart. As in Larraín's other works, "Spencer" is a delicate and slow film that focuses heavily on scene compositions creating an impeccable cinematography. The director brought out a side of Diana that goes beyond what has been seen of her before, emphasizing her psychological side and how her relationship with the Royal Family was troubled. This caused several problems with her health. As the story develops around Diana, all eyes turn to Kristen Stewart. The actress delivers one of her best performances, if not the best of her career.

Kidnapped
In Kidnapped (Rapito), Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio delves into one of the murkiest and most controversial episodes in the history of the Catholic Church, the "Mortara case". In 1851, when Jewish boy Edgardo Mortara becomes gravely ill, his Catholic nanny decides to baptize him in an emergency. However, papal law dictates that all Catholics must be raised as such, so the cardinal orders the boy to be taken and handed over to the church, against his parents' wishes, who decide to fight for him. The film recounts a controversial case that captured the attention of the rest of Europe and America, and skillfully portrays the clash of interests between the waning power of the church, Mortara's parents, and public opinion, with irreversible consequences for all involved.
Green Border
'Green Border' - In the treacherous and swampy forests that make up the so called “green border” between Belarus and Poland, refugees from the Middle East and Africa trying to reach the European Union are trapped in a geopolitical crisis cynically engineered by Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko. In an attempt to provoke Europe, refugees are lured to the border by propaganda promising easy passage to the EU. Pawns in this hidden war, the lives of Julia, a newly minted activist who has given up her comfortable life, Jan, a young border guard, and a Syrian family intertwine.
