Trailer

Why watch this film?

First Korean film to be screened in the special section of the Berlin Film Festival, 'Sanyangeui sigan' presents a dystopian world. In it, South Korea has gone through a severe social and economic crisis, which has resulted in the creation of "pockets of poverty". It is in one of them that a group of four young people live, who have to enter the world of crime to survive. Director Sung-hyun Yoon (of the acclaimed 'Pasookkoon') is far from having the subtlety and depth of Bong Joon-ho's films, the director who won the Oscar in 2020 with 'Parasite'. The excess of action scenes without much connection to the plot take away some of the impact of the film. However, there is in 'Sanyangeui sigan' a force of Korean cinema that is difficult to ignore. The harshness of the story, as well as the social pessimism that arises with the attitudes of these four boys, give the tone of the criticism in Yoon's script.
