Why watch this film?
'Red Line Crossing' is a Japanese mystery thriller with some horror elements and a certainly controversial plot for several reasons. On the one hand, it deals with the issue of sexual harassment of young women by male authority figures (in this case, teachers and students). On the other hand, it also exposes the distances that community institutions are willing to go to protect their reputation, even if it means covering up a crime. A Japanese film that makes up for its austere aesthetics with camera work that highlights expressiveness, as well as a script in which appearances hide something more, with surprising twists that reveal very dark characters.

From Japanese filmmaker Shûgô Fujii ('Red Line Crossing'), 'Chô-gitai ningen' is a film that, in addition to fitting into the horror category, is a bit hard to classify. After all, its delirious narrative jumps between past and present, and borrows elements from Japanese folk stories, science fiction (sometimes reminiscent of 'The Hut of Terror') and gore. The violence in the film is extreme, so it is not suitable for weak stomachs. However, fans of Japanese horror and its propensity to show jets of blood, deaths and guts flying across the screen will feel at home. Film selected at the Brussels International Film Festival.
