Why watch this film?

"'Puppet' is the second feature film by Mexican filmmaker Álvaro Curiel (director of 'Armored', winner of the Audience Award at the Morelia International Film Festival 2010), and whose original title of 'Vagoneros' very well condenses its original premise: the story focuses on a group of these well-known characters from Mexican metropolises, beggars who get money telling their tragic stories to public transport passengers, even if they are not necessarily true. Winner of the International Federation of Film Critics Prize (FIPRESCI) at the Guadalajara Film Festival 2019, this is a visually modest film, but elevated by the excellent performances of its protagonists: Rafael Ernesto Hernández ('Lisanka'), Fátima Molina ('Dream in another language') and Juan Manuel Bernal ('El callejón de los milagros').
