Why watch this film?

The story of Peter Pan has been interpreted and reinterpreted many times on the big screen. Of course, there's the classic Disney animation from 1953. But there are also various live-action films, such as 'Finding Neverland' with Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet; 'Pan' with Hugh Jackman; and Steven Spielberg's delightful adaptation of 'Hook: The Return of Captain Hook' with Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman. Now, however, filmmaker Benh Zeitlin (of Oscar-nominated 'Beasts of the Southern Wild') revisits this story in a more realistic and raw way with 'Wendy'. Although a bit tedious and sleepy, the feature film plays with the main pillars of the story of the boy who never wants to grow up and blends it with enchanting landscapes and powerful photography. Those who are only looking for a direct interpretation of J.M. Barrie's 1904 book, 'Peter Pan', which gave rise to it all, may be disappointed -- after all, Zeitlin puts a strong emotional and personal charge here in the movie. But it can't be denied that the story is cute and helps to give a new direction to Neverland, so exhausted in the movies and approached in such obvious ways out there.
