Why watch this film?
Movie that rides the wave of productions about civil disobedience and social tension, 'The Public' shows a microcosm of resistance. After all, the story focuses on a group of homeless people in Cincinnati, United States, who decide to take the library for themselves on a cold day. From there, director, actor and screenwriter Emilio Estevez (from the interesting 'The Way') begins to show details of the lives of those people in such a vulnerable situation and also how the police face the situation. Extremely current movie, which raises powerful discussions about humanity and resilience. However, it is worth saying: it is far from recent productions about social tensions like 'Les Miserables', 'The Hate You Give' or 'Bacurau'. Although it speaks of similar things and with very similar situations, Estevez gives a more subtle layer to the story, being able to please even those who are looking for just a simple drama and without many frills about real lives.
