Why watch this film?

Who said that Turkey doesn't make family melodramas? 'Annem', directed by Mustafa Kotan, has everything a 9 pm soap opera needs to be attractive: family intrigues, suffering mothers, ungrateful young people, diseases, complicated marriages. If it had a Rio de Janeiro setting and a character named Helena, it could be a Manoel Carlos plot. With the difference, of course, that here there is a little of Turkish culture in the story - such as the issue of marriage approved by parents - and an end that borders on a classic Mexican production from SBT, with open crying and a somewhat disproportionate tragic twist. So, in general, 'Annem' should move those who seek emotional plots, with a message in the middle, talking a lot about the importance of motherhood in our lives.

Plot summary

A self sacrificing, selfless mother who makes the impossible “possible” for her daughter… a daughter who is ashamed of her mother and wants to run away from her mother and her life with her. Her journey to the college drives Nazli away from the village she has grown up… but years later, she wants to go back to the village where she was born, back to her mother… after all those years passed by with tons of “I wish”. Candan Ercetin performed her song “Annem – Mom” once again for the movie twenty years later.
