Freedom Writers

A teacher motivates at-risk students to pursue education beyond high school.

Trailer

Why watch this film?

With a brilliant performance by Hilary Swank (Oscar winner for 'Boys Don't Cry' and 'Million Dollar Baby'), 'Freedom Writers' is an engaging story about the everyday lives of students and teachers. However, going against the grain of what American cinema usually tends to forget, this one takes a risk. At the center of attention, we see a classroom in a peripheral school, far from the elites. Thus, director Richard LaGravenese (of the teenage fantasy 'Sixteen Moons') gets close to reality by showing the social and economic differences of a fragmented country, both inside and outside the school. A well-made drama, ideal for those who like those productions that ride the Oscar wave with emotional and inspiring stories.
