The Brazilian Filipe Galvon has been living in France since 2013 and decided to show his disenchantment with Brazil in this documentary. 'Encantado, le Brésil désenchanté' follows the political crisis in the country, from 2013 to the election of Jair Bolsonaro in 2018. Drawing a parallel between Paris and Rio de Janeiro, taking place in the neighborhood that bears the name of 'Encantado', where filmmaker Galvon grew up. The narrative is built through interviews with important political figures such as Dilma Rousseff, Ciro Gomes, Fernando Haddad, Guilherme Boulos and the French philosopher Alain Badiou. A necessary documentary to see a panorama of Brazil in the last 10 years.

Plot summary

Considered some years ago at last as the “country of the future”, Brazil has seen since 2013 a deep disenchantment between the middle and popular classes that culminated with the rise of Jair Bolsonaro to the Presidency in 2018. 'Encantado' portrays the recent Brazilian history from a homonymous neighborhood in the Rio de Janeiro suburb. From Rio to Paris, a political and poetic testimony of Brazil through the eyes of the first generation of the popular class to study abroad.
