Why watch this film?
If great works of humanity are often portrayed in movies and documentaries, why not also talk about the great failures? That's what the excellent documentary 'Spaceship Earth' by filmmaker Matt Wolf ('Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell') does. Here, the viewer is invited to dive into the depths of the Biosfera 2 experiment, a hermetic terrarium in the Arizona desert containing a miniature replica of the Earth's environment. Despite the positive intentions of an oil magnate to use this experience to develop new technologies and forms of energy, the experiment ended up becoming a microscope on the social organization we live in. Wolf, who knows how to treat the material with the attention it deserves, leads the viewer to chaos without letting him realize the path he is taking. Almost a story of the Coen brothers, which starts without any problem and soon enters a spiral of chaos - here, in this case, death of plants, intrigues, lack of oxygen. In addition, it is a movie that, even telling a story from the 1990s and that became a failure, succeeds in updating the discussions and does not escape from some thorny reflections. To watch, reflect and think for a long time. After all, what are we if not a great and exaggerated Biosfera 2?
