Why watch this film?
It seems Netflix is on the hunt for a superhero movie to call its own -- even if it doesn't take itself too seriously sometimes. After 'Power', it's now time for 'Freaks: You're One of Us' to try and grab the attention of this action-thirsty audience. In the case of this German production, however, everything strays from the norm. Firstly, the totally different direction of Felix Binder (known for German TV series), who doesn't give in to the obvious and puts a cook as the protagonist of this superhero story. Furthermore, the production is an open invitation for the audience to discover new visions about hero stories, finding these intelligent and fun variations from other cultures and countries. It's not a Marvel or DC movie. Nevertheless, in the end, it serves as good entertainment and a way to travel beyond the obvious.

Jean-Claude Van Damme makes his starring debut in the descriptively titled Bloodsport. An American soldier at large in Hong Kong, Van Damme becomes involved in the Kumite, a highly illegal kickboxing competition. Whoever survives the bout will be crowned Kumite champion of the world…a title that has plenty of challengers with homicide in their hearts. The finale offers a duel to the death between Van Damme and reigning Kumite king Bolo Yeung. The script is based on the real-life exploits of martial arts champ Frank Dux, who serves as the film's fight coordinator.

The Order

With shades of Dan Brown and a script by Jean Claude Van Damme himself, alongside Les Weldon (screenwriter of another action star film, Replicant), the movie is what every fan of the Belgian actor wants: brawling, with a fun plot, and never boring.
