Why watch this film?

Don't confuse this movie with another 'Before Leaving', starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. This feature film, starring an aging Brian Cox (from the TV series 'Succession'), also talks about old age, passing time and memory. However, unlike that other one, the focus is not on light humor and tasks to be done before departure. In fact, this film by Oded Binnun ('Lost Paradise') and Mihal Brezis ('Aya') ends up focusing on the relationship of this Cox protagonist with his son and grandson, lost and rusty by distance and time. There are some mannerisms and clichés that are excessively repeated by the directing duo, which takes away some of the strength of the feature film. Still, 'The Etruscan Smile' is a simple and moving drama that does not take long to make us think about life, relationships and our families.
