Why watch this film?
One of the biggest box office hits in Brazilian cinema are comedies, usually with a foot in besteirol. Stars like Leandro Hassum and Paulo Gustavo have gained space and, of course, a captive audience. And one of the main names behind this wave of humor is director Cininha de Paula, of titles like 'Crô em Família', 'Duas de Mim' and 'De Perto Ela Não é Normal'. The latter, starring Suzana Pires ('Loucas pra Casar') follows the script of the other films by the filmmaker: many absurd scenes, a sometimes non-sense humor and a typical humor for TV sketches, totally outrageous. Although it has some moments of embarrassment, like the moments when Suzana also plays an aunt of the protagonist, the feature film finds some gaps to entertain with the story of a woman seeking her independence - always current theme and that resonates easily around. It will not please everyone, that's for sure. But it may amuse those who are already open to Cininha de Paula's humor and enjoy this humor of Brazilian cinema.

Plot summary
The fun and inspiring journey of a woman, from her 8 to 40 years of age, in search of herself and her own pursuit of happiness. When pressured by her family and society, Suzi becomes different from the sensitive girl she once was. Throughout the years, she interacts with different contemporary feminine archetypes: the married woman, the woman who has attitude, the intelligent woman, the successful woman, the depressed woman, the enlightened woman and the desperate woman. Until she meets with her aunt Suely, the free woman, who makes her revisit her story and connect with her past.

Italian filmmaker Nanni Moretti (winner of the Palme d'Or in 2001 for The Son's Room) returns with what has been called his 8½, for obvious reasons. A Brighter Tomorrow is the story of a filmmaker struggling to shoot a movie about the Hungarian Revolution, while trying to save his marriage to his producer wife. The film satirizes the current state of cinema, and perhaps indulges a bit too much in its nostalgia. It is far from the best that veteran Moretti has to offer, but if you've enjoyed his previous films, you will undoubtedly enjoy this one.
