Why watch this film?

After 'Get Out', cinemas began to follow an explosion of stories that mix social dilemmas with fantasy, fiction or horror plots. 'Antebellum', from the directing duo Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, takes advantage of this type of premise. Here, we follow the story of a black woman who faces prejudice, violence and abuse as a slave. However, just like 'Get Out' and 'Us', there are twists and turns and an attempt to bring a different look at the role of blacks in society. It's a shame, however, that Bush and Rentz don't even come close to what Jordan Peele achieved in those other mentioned films. There is little delicacy in the treatment of the story, a lot of things that are not resolved and, above all, a tiring lack of rhythm. But still, the movie can be attractive to those who want more fantasy stories with racial touches to get out of the ordinary. Again: it's far from being a work like Peele's. But you can pass the time, bring some reflections and, above all, be surprised by the plot.
