Why watch this film?
Initially just a YouTube channel, Porta dos Fundos has grown like few other audiovisual brands in Brazil. It has become a successful production company and, in addition to the sketches on the channel, it has also started to tell bigger stories with feature films. The first was 'Porta dos Fundos: Contrato Vitalício'. Here, an actor makes a pact with a director to be in all his films. However, as expected, things go off the rails. Obviously, the movie can't sustain the pace throughout its duration - very different from what we see daily on YouTube videos. Many jokes don't work, some performances are wrong. However, overall, it's a movie that makes you laugh. It entertains for its faults, its absences and for not taking itself so seriously. Not to mention some really hilarious special appearances.

Plot summary

A Brighter Tomorrow
Italian filmmaker Nanni Moretti (winner of the Palme d'Or in 2001 for The Son's Room) returns with what has been called his 8½, for obvious reasons. A Brighter Tomorrow is the story of a filmmaker struggling to shoot a movie about the Hungarian Revolution, while trying to save his marriage to his producer wife. The film satirizes the current state of cinema, and perhaps indulges a bit too much in its nostalgia. It is far from the best that veteran Moretti has to offer, but if you've enjoyed his previous films, you will undoubtedly enjoy this one.
