Why watch this film?

After the great 'Alguma Coisa Assim', filmmaker Esmir Filho returns to theaters with the provocative, intriguing and controversial 'Verlust'. Shown at the 2020 International Film Festival, the feature film tells the story of a wealthy businesswoman (Andréa Beltrão) who has to organize a New Year's party during a complicated period of her life, as she is in crisis with her husband and still has to smooth out her relationship with a singer she manages -- the latter, by the way, played by Marina Lima. From there, Esmir takes advantage of a fanciful plot, which plays with the narrative and the psychology of the characters, to go beyond a banal and structured narrative based only on basics. However, it is worth saying that this audacity is not enough to sustain 'Verlust', which ends up being much more aesthetic than really deep. So there is the suggestion for those who like sensory experiences in cinema, even if not always positive.
