Why watch this film?
Following the logic of body-swap movies like 'Freaky Friday' or the Brazilian 'O Menino no Espelho', the comedy 'The Stand In' doesn't bring great innovations or surprise with its plot. After all, the feature film tells the story of an actress (Drew Barrymore) who ends up hiring a woman to replace her on the set. And then, as always, things get out of control and this double of the protagonist takes her place in her life and her work. It's a conventional and quite obvious movie, without director Jamie Babbit ('Never Been Kissed') ever daring. What saves it here is the unpretentious humor, good for watching in moments when lightness is sought, and the funny performance of Drew Barrymore. It's not amazing, nor does it reinvent comedies of this type. But it's possible to pass the time.
