Based on Francisco Goldman's eponymous book, 'The Art of Political Murder' is a documentary that explores the corruption and collusion in high offices that culminated in the murder of Bishop and activist Juan José Gerardi, an event that shook a country marked by decades of violent civil war and unpunished atrocities by the military. The documentary has a more procedural approach, with greater weight on the criminal aspect of the homicide than on the social and political context in which it occurred. It is a solid proposal for fans of true crime stories, but those who want to know more about the Guatemalan civil war will have to complement it with other films (we recommend 'El Buen Cristiano' by Izabel Acevedo).
