Why watch this film?

What are the challenges of youth? What dilemmas do we face, what pains do we feel, what emotions do we control? These questions, and many others, are addressed in 'Adolescents', a French documentary by the great filmmaker Sébastien Lifshitz ('Wild Side', 'First Summer'). Here, in a mix of '17 Blocks' with 'Boyhood', we are invited to enter the lives of two French teenagers, Emma and Ana, who lead inseparable lives. From there, Lifshitz makes an impressive follow-up from the girls' 13 years old until adulthood, when they are entering college. It is a kind of anthropological and social experiment, which shows every detail of the transition from childhood to adolescence, through adult life. Transitions that, without doubt, many must recognize on the screen. Just a warning: it is an excessively slow and unnatural movie, with many scenes that seem even a bit artificial - maybe even because of the lack of naturalness of the teenagers in front of the cameras. Those who like naturalistic documentaries, without a doubt, will be disappointed.
