Trailer

Why watch this film?

In a patriarchal society, the labor of the cabaret dancer is destined for misunderstanding (an example being the intrusion of a certain impertinent character late in the documentary). The image of the cabarets, these old supposed "entertainment" spaces for men, is well known on the surface, so director Laura Herrero Garvín opts to film the opposite, and go behind the scenes of the Blue Beard Cabaret in Mexico City, to find its only exclusive and truly feminine space: the women's bathroom, under the shelter of the titular character, who also performed the same job under the name of "Olga". 'La mami' is an intrusion into the privacy of a daily refuge for women, not to portray them as victims, but as a support network against the ancient truths of their labor and, above all, of gender inequality which, as illustrated by the parallel stories of Olga and "Priscilla", seems to have been frozen in time.
