Why watch this film?
It's so nice to find, every once in a while, those fun movies without much pretense, just to pass the time. 'Love and Monsters', nominated for Best Visual Effects Oscar, is an example. Directed by Michael Matthews ('The Warriors of Marseille'), the feature film creates an impossible-to-not-have-fun dystopian environment where giant insects have taken over the world. Now, the surviving humans must live underground and defend themselves as best they can. That's where we meet the story of Joel (Dylan O'Brien, from 'Maze Runner'), a guy with not many skills trying to survive. However, instead of staying in his corner (and in his hideout), he decides to go after a love from before the attack of the giant insects. That's when one of the most interesting adventures of the year arises, in which this totally inept guy escapes from bizarre and dangerous creatures. It's hard not to get on board with the story and delight in the comings and goings.
